North American Alpaca Show 2009We headed down to NAAS on Thursday with Flo, Otto and Nemo. It was very warm, near 70 when we arrived. This created a challenge for keeping the alpacas dry. Nemo and Otto were very nervous and sweating a lot. Friday morning, Otto was the first to show. He placed 6th out of a class of 9. His fleece had drooped quite a bit from the weather so I was really pleased to have him place. He showed very well. Nemo was really hot and lost most of his crimp by the time we showed in the afternoon. He placed 6th in a very competitive class of 14. Judge Jude Anderson commented on his fineness and softness of hand. Flo didn’t show until Saturday morning. It was a bit cooler and she placed 5th under Judge Mike Safley who commented on her fineness and staple length. The show was very competitive as usual and it was really great to place amongst these animals.
We have one more show this Spring. We will travel to Syracuse for the Northeast Alpaca Expo on May 1 with the same three animals.
We also are preparing for spring crias and shearing on May 17th.
Happy Spring!!!
